Due to the many health challenges that affect senior individuals, influencing them to become difficult.

However, it is important that you remain positive, kind, and patient when trying to motivate an aging person to stay active. In case the aging loved one stay active from an early stage, there will be more health benefits. An active senior person will translate into a healthy aging person. The active senior will also be happy. One of the challenge will be motivating your loved to stay active and engaged.

Although it can be difficult convincing your senior loved one to stay active, you don’t have to give up. As you try encouraging them to be active, try to show them what benefits are there in being active. At the same time, discuss with your aging loved one the benefit they would get from having activities that keep them mentally and physically active. For example, an aging person will benefit from physical activities by being flexible, minimize chances of fall, reduced depression and anxiety, and building strength.

You can, however, employ some tips that will help you loved one stay engaged and active. Some of the tips include the following.

1. Train your senior loved one to use video chatting or calling.

It is likely that your senior loved one will have challenges utilizing technology to talk and chat with friends and family. Training them to use such technology will not take so long. You may also set aside time when family members chat with the loved one. When the aging loved become more comfortable about the idea of chatting with the family, it will also become easier to chat with friends.

2. Look for hobbies.

You need to consider those things your loved one did in their free time. Then adapt the hobbies to current obstacles. For example, you can provide magnifying glasses to make it easier to read their favorite magazine.
